Day 29

Here are some more earrings!  It looks like the ones on the left are not a pair - the bottom beads are slightly different.
This is probably because I've had such trouble with those earrings.  I lost one of the pair in Japan, so when I came home I made a new one - except I only had a white bead, not a pearl one.  So they were mismatched for about 5 seconds, when I found the one I had lost - in some really obvious place like my jewellery box.  So I had three and had to make another one to match the one I'd made.  So I had two pairs.
I promptly lost one for real.  How can I be soooo crazy?~!

Day 28

I'll post some earrings for a few days.  I made these because I wanted to use some shirt buttons (I have about fifty bazillion).  There's also a tiny bead on the end of each earring.

Day 27

On Saturday I made a light box.

This way I can photograph small things in good light.
I put a small desk lamp on either side of the box and the light is diffused through the tissue paper.
This is not super great, but it's okay.  So I guess for the next few days I'll post small things photographed in the light box!

Day 26

I've been making a skirt for my mum, and finished it tonight.

Detail of buttons on the back - with threads still attached oh my!
I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.  The worst part was the lining - sewing slippery fabric is the WORST.

Day 25

Today I went to outer space. It was pretty cool. Photo by Rohan - I think it really captures the ambiance, don't' you think?

Soz.

Have a photo I took a while ago of this totally cute thing.  This makes up for yesterday right?

I hope I'm not one of  "those jazz gluttons".

Day 24 Fail

Nothing today because I feel sick and I'm very upset about it.

Day 23

Oh look!  It's another skirt.  I made it a while ago but never posted it, so here it is!

It's a circle skirt!

Just look at those buttons!  Fate squeezed buttony creativity out of me by denying me a zip when I needed one.  There's a strip of lace there to hide a little gap where you can see my hip.

I think I might be a day behind but I'm not sure.

It's time for you to comment!

Day 22

One of my best friends ordered a pendant off my Etsy store!  It's my first sale (and probably my only sale) so I wanted to show my thanks.  I made her a little pouch to keep the pendant in when it's not being worn.

It's made of a wide satin ribbon and trimmed with lace, embroidered with 3 strands of gold thread.  First!

WHOA!

I went to a party tonight.  I saw my friend there who I made this tissue pouch for.  I hadn't seen her since I gave it to her a year ago.  She took it out of her pocket and said she took it everywhere!  I was so happy that she was still using it!  Isn't it nice when people like what you make for them?

Day 21

Finally up to date!
Now I want to make it clear that this is not real fur.  So from here on I will call it "fuer".

This is a fuer stole which is lined with satiny slimy material.  It's not really slimy either... just slippy.  Tied at the front with a ribbon.  I got this pattern from somewhere on the internet.  Not sure if I like it or not, probably because my fuer was the cheap kind rather than the $50 per metre kind.

Shortly after making this I acquired a real fur stole which is much more rad.  Good-bye fuer!

Day 20

A day late woo!
Today I recorded some music at uni, but I couldn't figure out how to put it onto the internet.  I'll figure that out soon.
So here's a picture of my dog.  He's saying "Ohhh Chrissy you're being so funny, I'm gonna bark at you in a second and wag my tail."

Day 19

Another ring... Can you tell I'm running out of ideas?  Someone give me an idea in the comments!  I've got so much on every day, it's hard to craft stuff too!  I gotta say, this is more like a "Post-a-thing-a-day" rather than a "Make-a-thing-a-day", although I do make an effort.
I took this photo during a lecture.  I was SO TIRED.  Probably because I was up all night MAKING A RING to PUT ON MY BLORG.

Yes.  So you've got a bit of thigh there too.

"I want to thigh, oh so high, like a kite."

Day 18

Pendants!  Look at them shine!

I started making these pendants about a week ago, and they're only just set.  Resin takes ages sometimes.
It's a multi-step process, so I guess it's no wonder it took me so long.  First I've got to drink ALL THAT BEER.  I had no choice but to do it all in one night.  22 bottles*!
Then I have to find/print pictures to embed.  They need to be coated with glue-type stuff so that the resin doesn't leak into the paper.  When that happens, it looks like the paper got wet and soggy.
The pictures have to be cut to size and glued into the bottletop.  Then the glue must be dry before any resin pouring happens.  If the glue isn't dry, it forms clouds in the resin.
The resin is really sticky and there's no chance of getting it off anything.  So gloves and newspaper are a must!  Luckily it's not smelly.  Sometimes I like to stick my nose in and sniff**.
I like the pendants to have a domed top, which is best achieved with two separate pours, a few hours apart.  This time I only did one pour, so some of them spilled over a little.  Couldn't handle the (surface) tension.  They turned out good though.
The second picture is pendants with security envelope patterns inside.  Have you ever noticed how intricate and pretty they are?  I thought about having a scrapbook with them in, but then I remembered that I hate scrapbooking. How dare they invent a verb!

Oh and I'm selling pendants on Etsy.  Check them out.

* Not really!  If I had to drink that much, I would have at least invited you!
** Not really!  Gosh don't you get sarcasm?!

Day 17

WOW DAY 17!!!
I made these shoe-clips to decorate my boring shoes.  Using some little ribbon roses leftover from my brother's wedding and some paperclips, glued together using craft glue.

Day 16

Today (and by today I mean yesterday), all I did was modify some clothes so they fit me again.
Yay!  Clothes that fit!
No pictures for you.

Day 14

I used a leftover flower ribbon decoration from my brother's wedding to wrap a headband I already owned.  Using white cotton I stitched it in place.  It's pretty!  It looks a bit skewiff in this photo because as I put it on it broke.  Snapped in the middle.  The ribbon sort of held it together as long as the photo, but I can't really wear it anymore.  I'll just do it to another headband!

Day 12

Is it day 12?  I don't even KNOW.
It's White Ninja!  He's made out of felt with a wire skeleton so he's posable!  If you look closely, you might see a person in the background.  I guess that's just my superior photography skillz showing.  Or maybe it's Charles showing.  I know it's something showing.

Day 11

Lace hobo gloves?  WHAT IS GOING ON.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Day 10

I painted the dango that I made from modeling clay.  It's a bit blobby.

Day 9

Ring, ring!
Why don't you give me a call?

Day 8

Today I went to uni and worked really hard doing lots of things.  I went to my first philosophy/maths tutorial.  Before the tute I was really nervous because the lecturer said we had to contribute in class because we'd be marked on it.  I did the readings and was freaking out because they were complicated and dense.

In class, we first went round the circle and introduced ourselves.  Most people are science students majoring in physics or maths.  I'm the only person who is doing music or psychology, let alone music/psychology.  Questions were asked and the floor was open.

We spent the whole time talking about the door and its brownness and how everyone has a different experience of the door.  What does the door think of itself?  Is it really there?  How come we experience it as solid when it is composed of atoms that are mostly empty space?  Who am I?  Who are you?  Are you really there, are you sure you're not somewhere else?  What's that over there?  What do you think is over there?  How do you experience red?  Does it really matter whether you see red the same way as me?  How is that relevant?  How is it not relevant?  How does the door exist without our physical and mental experiences of it?  Is it still a door or is it something else?

Blah blah blah.

Conclusion: out of all the shoes in the class, I liked mine best.  I'm wearing the brown ankle boots with a pointy toe and no heel that cost me $15.  The ones that cracked and peeled 5 seconds after I bought them because they're not leather.  The ones that have coats and coats of brown acrylic paint on them to cover up the scratches.  They are So Choice.  They fit So Nice.

Sometimes I find it really difficult to mix the right shade of paint for my shoes.  Usually the paint dries a little darker than the wet colour, so I have to be careful.  Right now I've got a pretty good match.  You'd have to look really closely to figure out that they're painted.  Everyone has a different experience of my boots.

One girl was wearing blue cons, which I also liked, and one dude was wearing some cool skate shoes with red stripes.

GET YOUR FLESH OFF!  EVERYTHING WE'VE DONE, WE'VE DONE IT!  YEAH!!!!!

Day 7

g
Today I give you a photo of the Cat Empire.  My camera ran out of batteries halfway through importing photos, so I only have half.  I hope the others aren't lost forever!

There's Felix sitting down playing tambourine with one hand and chocalo with the other.  He was slamming them against his lap for the WHOLE SONG and by the end he had a pained expression on his face.  I sent him some sympathy rays with my heart.  Because I know that painful chocalo feeling.

Day 5

I made a top. It was going to be a dress, and maybe it will be sometime. I found a top that fits me well and traced it for the bodice. The bust is gathered a little at the front. The strap was modeled on the one Venus Williams had at the Hopman Cup (I think). It goes through a keyhole at the front and joins the back in the same way regular straps do. It's kind of a mix between a halter neck and spaghetti straps. All hand-stitched.
